Best practices
- Keep it short. Text QR codes grow fast, and a dense code needs a bigger print and better light to scan.
- Avoid unusual symbols and emoji where you can. They use several bytes each and not every reader displays them properly.
- If the text is long, consider whether a short link would serve better. A link keeps the code simple and lets you update the content.
- Test the printed label at the distance and lighting where it will actually be scanned, not on your desk.
Limitations
- Nothing happens automatically when scanned: the phone just shows the text. That is the point, but it is not a call to action.
- There is a hard technical ceiling of around 2900 characters, and the practical limit for printing is far lower.
- Line breaks and formatting are shown differently depending on the reader app.
Privacy
The text is encoded into a QR code in your browser and stays on your device. We do not receive it, store it or log it at any point.
