Best practices

  • Use the final https:// address, with no spaces or typos: the URL sits inside the image, so one wrong character means reprinting everything.
  • Scan the printed proof with an iPhone and an Android before ordering the full run. Printing eats contrast and what looks fine on screen does not always read on paper.
  • Print it at 2.5-3 cm per side minimum and keep the white margin around it. Quick rule: the code should measure about a tenth of the distance it will be scanned from.
  • Add a short call to action next to it ("Scan to see the menu") and UTM parameters to the link so you can measure the scans in Google Analytics.

Limitations

  • This is a static QR code: the link travels inside the image, so the destination cannot be changed once it is printed. Point it to a page you control in case the content moves.
  • There are no scan statistics on our side. If you need numbers, use UTM parameters or your own website analytics.
  • Very long URLs create a denser code that is harder to read at small sizes. Drop the parameters you do not need and be careful with shorteners, which can expire or look suspicious.
